Creative Reuse Center Manager
35-40 hours a week
Hourly/non-exempt
$22.50 hour
Our store is open 7 days a week. Scheduled days will vary, with a typical workweek of Saturday through Wednesday. Flexibility and weekend availability are required.

Reports to: Director of Site
Leadership Role: Member of the Site leadership team, manages retail operations, and supervises the volunteer program and reuse and donation programs.
Direct Reports: Reuse Specialists, Volunteers (as needed)
Supervisory Duties: In partnership with the Site Director and/or Director or Education and with final approval from the National Admin Team, this position is responsible for exercising independent judgment to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, and discipline employees. The position also leads ongoing staff development efforts, including training, performance management, coaching, and professional growth support.
SCRAP is searching for an energetic and outgoing individual to fill the role of Creative Reuse Center Manager. Providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment and receiving, processing and managing high quality and safe creative reuse materials for retail.
SCRAP’s mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. To fulfill our mission, SCRAP operates a donation-based creative reuse store and education programming.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for overseeing the retail operations and the supply of creative reuse materials to the customer base in partnership with the Site Director, including receiving, processing, and managing high-quality donations for retail sale in a safe and efficient manner. The role ensures excellent customer service and fosters a welcoming environment. Additionally, this position collaborates with the Site Director to manage staff schedules, hiring, staff development, assigning duties, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
The CRC Manager works to develop and utilize a strong staff and volunteer pool to support and grow the retail operation. As a key member of SCRAP, the CRC Manager ensures that weekly, monthly, and annual goals are met or exceeded. They require the use of independent judgement to supervise the daily activities of the Retail Store Team, Donations Team, and/or Volunteer Team, with collaboration from the Volunteer Coordinator, Donations Coordinator, and CRC Coordinator when those positions are filled.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Materials Management — Operational Authority, Strategic Alignment
(In collaboration with Donations Coordinator when present)
• Exercises day-to-day decision-making authority over materials acceptance and declination in alignment with SCRAP guidelines and direction set by the Site Director, in collaboration with the Donations Coordinator when that role is present.
• Implements and enforces site-level materials acquisition policies, recommending changes to the Site Director based on operational data and trends, coordinating execution with the Donations Coordinator when applicable.
• Leads execution of materials acquisition strategy, collaborating with the Site Director on goals, priorities, and performance outcomes, and aligning operational implementation with the Donations Coordinator when present.
• Directs daily donation processing operations (including cart process), adjusting workflows and staffing to ensure safety, efficiency, and consistency, while coordinating with the Donations Coordinator who supervises the donations department when that role exists.
• Sets operational quality standards for materials handling, processing, storage, and presentation, subject to Site Director review, and ensures alignment with the Donations Coordinator’s supervision of donations staff when applicable.
• Designs and improves materials flow systems, proposing significant process or policy changes to the Site Director for approval, in consultation with the Donations Coordinator when changes impact the donations department.
• Determines recovery-area staffing needs and assignments within approved staffing models and budget parameters, coordinating with the Donations Coordinator to align staffing and workflow across departments.
• Recommends pricing strategies and adjustments to the Site Director and ensures approved pricing is implemented consistently, communicating impacts to the Donations Coordinator as needed.
• Manages customer feedback systems, analyzes trends, and elevates insights to the Site Director to inform strategic decisions, sharing relevant findings with the Donations Coordinator when applicable.
• May represent the site on Board committees at the direction of the Site Director.
Retail Operations — Managerial Control with Accountability
(In collaboration with CRC Coordinator when present)
• Manages daily retail operations and is accountable for sales performance, customer experience, merchandising execution, and operational efficiency within targets established by the Site Director, in collaboration with the CRC Coordinator when that role is present.
• Establishes store design, layout, and merchandising standards, making adjustments as needed and informing the Site Director of significant changes, coordinating execution with the CRC Coordinator when applicable.
• Implements approved pricing, promotions, and sales strategies, and recommends modifications based on performance analysis, working with the CRC Coordinator to ensure consistent execution.
• Monitors sales trends, identifies issues, and initiates corrective actions, escalating concerns when performance deviates from goals, with input from the CRC Coordinator as appropriate.
• Oversees retail training and supervision, ensuring staff and volunteers meet performance and service standards, in partnership with the CRC Coordinator’s day-to-day oversight of floor operations when present.
• Oversees website content updates related to inventory needs, store operations, and events, ensuring consistency with organizational messaging, with updates executed by the Coordinators as needed.
• Coordinates inventory allocation between in-store and online sales channels, in collaboration with designated online content staff, within parameters set by the Site Director, and in coordination with the CRC Coordinator when applicable.
• Ensures consistency and compliance across all retail promotions, signage, and customer-facing communications, with implementation support from the CRC Coordinator when present.
• Supervises execution of daily retail tasks, holding staff accountable for accuracy, safety, and customer service, while delegating day-to-day task coordination to the CRC Coordinator when appropriate.
Supervision and Personnel Management — People Management Under Delegated Authority
• Serves as the direct supervisor for CRC Coordinators and staff, reporting to the Site Director.
• Leads hiring, training, supervision, and performance management, making recommendations to the Site Director and HR for final approval where required.
• Implements corrective action and disciplinary processes in accordance with SCRAP policies, with escalation to the Site Director as appropriate.
• Develops staff schedules and approves schedule adjustments within approved staffing plans and labor budgets.
• Approves time-off requests and payroll submissions when delegated by the Site Director.
• Maintains confidential personnel documentation in compliance with SCRAP and legal requirements.
• Oversees the Volunteer Management Program at the site when a Volunteer Coordinator is not present; otherwise provides operational oversight and ensures alignment with site priorities.
• Sets clear expectations and priorities for staff and addresses performance issues promptly, informing the Site Director of significant concerns.
• Supports staff development and retention, with accountability for team performance outcomes.
• Familiarity and compliance with the collective bargaining agreement
• Escalating risks of or violations of applicable laws and employment policies to the Site Director and HR.
Financial Management — Operational Budget Stewardship
• Manages day-to-day financial controls for CRC operations within the approved site budget.
• Provides operational input into annual budgeting, revenue forecasting, wage planning, and expense projections.
• Ensures timely deposits of revenue and donations in accordance with procedures established by the Site Director.
• Executes approved fundraising activities and reports results to the Site Director.
Metrics and Reporting
• Maintains and oversees required records and metrics for CRC operations.
• Analyzes operational data and reports performance, risks, and opportunities to the Site Director.
• Prepares monthly operational reports for review with the Site Director, including recommendations for improvement.
• Implements changes based on Site Director feedback and organizational priorities.
Customer Service & External Representation — Site-Level Leadership
• Leads by example in customer and donor engagement and ensures staff adhere to SCRAP service standards.
• Resolves escalated customer and donor issues, consulting the Site Director on high-risk or sensitive matters.
• Represents SCRAP in the community related to CRC operations, consistent with guidance from the Site Director.
• Upholds and reinforces organizational values, culture, and public-facing expectations.
Working Conditions
• Leads special projects as assigned by the Site Director or National Admin Team and is accountable for execution, outcomes, and reporting.
• A high frequency of unassisted heavy moving of items (up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis per shift)
• Position oneself to bend, stoop and/or climb
• Stay in a stationary position (either standing, working, or sitting) for extended periods of times
• Working in hot and cold climates
